For all you leather holster noobs! FYI Break in

I have used mostly military holsters....got a new leather holster from Galco..took some physical force to get it in the first time...
wasnt sure what to do

but the customer rep sent me some FYI..gonna share it so others can benefit from my experience

Thank you for your purchase. CON440H is the correct product code for the Springfield XD 4” barrel, so please just verify that these are the numbers on the back of the holster. If the numbers match up, it sounds like you just need to break in your holster. Our holsters (especially the Havana ones) are normally quite tight when new, and yours is a common question. To break in the holster, begin by working the leather with your hands, bending and flexing the holster in all directions. Don’t fold it in half or anything, but don’t be afraid to flex it. This will warm and stretch the fibers of the leather.

After flexing the holster body for about ten minutes. Take the unloaded pistol and jam it into the holster as far as you can possibly make it go. Take it out and jam it in again. Do this about 20-30 times. This should relax the holster enough to accommodate your pistol.

If you have any further difficulties, please don’t hesitate to contact us again.

also got some help from forum folks.........

one said to wrap in two sheets of paper and stick in holster to stretch...this worked

another said Saran Wrap....gonna try it but it would work to and you can vary the thickness better

I think its Don Hume that suggest to break it in take the bag that the holster came in and put a UNLOADED gun in the bag then put the gun in the holster. Overnight should be enough time.

BTW nice gun
