400 corbon dies
Am going to receive Hornaday 400 corbon dies any day. Have been told I can reform 45 ACP cases to this caliber. Want to try it. Anything special I need to know other than lubing the cases? John

You may find this thread interesting.
http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=143607 I would size the cases in the 45ACP die, give it a very light lube with Imperial Sizing Die Wax, then run it thru the 400 Corbon die.

Make darned sure you use case lube. Stuck cases are not fun to remove from dies.

If you size the case with a .45ACP carbide die first, you won't need any lube to neck the case down to .400 Cor-Bon. If you're going to load full-power loads, you should use .45ACP +p brass.
AA#7 powder works great for reloading .400 Cor-Bon. Be careful about bullet setback. There's virtually no neck tension to stop the bullet from setting back during chambering. If I were reloading .400 Cor-Bon, I'd buy a canneluring tool (Corbin, Inc.) and only load cannelured bullets. You must use a roll crimp, when crimping into a cannelure. RCBS's .400 Cor-Bon seater/crimp die uses a roll crimp; don't know what Hornady uses. |

Of all the dies Hornady makes, only 8 are additonally produced in taper crimp. 400 Corbon is one of them. Unless you specified that you wanted taper crimp, you should get roll crimp. Check on the die box, if it does not specify "Taper Crimp", then you have the roll crimp, which will also do a light taper if adjusted properly.
