AOW vs SBR vs ar pistol
Trying to see if I have this right before I go off and build the thing...
If I build an ar pistol and its OAL is 26 inches or more, I can add a veritcal foregrip, and cheek rest... and it'll just be a firearm... not an AOW, not an SBR or PISTOL and needing a stamp or being put on my pistol permit correct? |

IIRC, adding a vertical fore grip to any handgun makes it AOW.
A handgun is a handgun, regardless of barrel length or overall length.

The barrel can be 5 feet long but it's still classified as a handgun so the vertical grip is a no go.

Actually, I do believe a firearm not designed to be fired from the shoulder with an OAL of 26" is not a handgun. It is a firearm, which can have a vertical grip added to it.
Here's a company selling one such product http://www.franklinarmory.com/PRODUCTS_XO-26B.html

Dakota that was my understanding, and that of my gun smith... but was trying to get clarification before we built the thing.

There are even 12 gauge smoothbore "firearms" with short barrels legally available without going through the NFA.

Thanks for the info.
Good luck with the build, and share some pics when you're done.
