Well, I just got back from the local range with a minor problem. I loaded 50 rounds with 3.9 grams of Winchester 231 with a 185gr lead SWC bullet. Shooting through a Kimber Ultra the rounds would not cycle. I guess that is because not enough powder? When this happens what increments should it be raised?

Guess that is why everyone says reload just a few rounds and test before production

Thanks for any advice.

First of all I'm sure you meant grains not "grams".
3.9 grains of W231 is a very light load and may be the reason for the rounds not cycling. If you shoot lead you may also want to have the feed ramp polished. Polishing the feed ramp will eliminate the lead bullets from dragging and will increase cycling efficiency.
Try using 5.0 to 5.5 grains of Win 231 in your load. This is still a light load but should shoot well and cycle the gun with no problems.

Woops you are right it was 3.9 grains that I was using. I will give 5 a try and see what happens. Thanks!

Hunter... Get the Straight Facts!

I just started out, too, (in other words, NEWBIE ALERT!) and found the PDF download from the Winchester site to be the best source of info. For the load you mentioned, Winchester says:
------------------

185gr JSWC starting load 5.1gr w231, topping out at 6.1 gr
------------------

185gr JHP starting load 6.2gr w231, topping out at 6.8 gr
------------------

Actually, it doesn't seem to have a 185 gr LSWC, but there is data for the 180gr LSWC: 5.3 to start, topping out at 6.3
------------------
don't trust these numbers! look it up yourself!

(sounds like Target Shooter had it right!)
