seeking info on old shotgun

I picked up a single shot 12 ga. this weekend and need help with identification. It has a damascus barrel, and is stamped
AM ARMS CO. BOSTON PAT.MAR. 21 1882. Serial # 31xx. The side plate on the action is removable and appears to be missing a lever on the left side as there is a square post that is threaded in the center like it held a safety or something. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

it was manufactured by American Arms...but you probably already knew that.

does it break open to the side? is the hammer exposed or internal?

With a damascus barrel, it will most likely make a nice wall hanger. It needs to be thoroughly checked by someone who really knows older damascus barreled guns before firing
