I'm no artist, but when I first looked at Doogle's pic the only gripe I had was the background wasn't very contrasting to the focused piece. It didn't provide great depth to me.
However, after looking it over again this time around, it really grew on me. Maybe a darker background wouldn't have provided full lighting potential to parts of the gun. Since most of the gun is polished with darker accented parts, I think I was wrong. Congratulations, Doogle. Very nice pic.

Nice shot Doogle.....
Did you use a light box (shadow box) for this shot? I like the background. It really pulled out the steel.... and love that trigger. Well done! Frame that puppy for your den or office! |

The Cigar Cycleman - Thanks. No I don't use a light box...>
...I find them a bit restrictive, but I generally do heavily diffuse my light source (flourescent lamp) to provide a soft light. I use sheets of draughtsman's tracing paper (a translucent flexible plastic material) for diffusion, varying the distance from the light source to provide the degree of diffusion I'm after for the particular shot. The background is a sheet of marbled art paper.
Heh! The trigger is the one part of this Silver Chrome BHP I don't particularly like. It looks a bit gaudy to me, but I wanted a chromed version of the pistol and this is how they come. I originally intended to replace the trigger with a blued one but after shooting the pistol for a few years I came to the conclusion that I can live with it :-) |

Heh! A long story, but I'll make it as short as I can...>
...I bought the pistol used with the rear sight missing (I don't know why it was missing). The deal with the seller was that they would get in a new rear sight for me and fit it. Well, that didn't prove so easy. Where I live distributors for Browning/FN (Winchester, at the time) were less than enthusiastic in supplying a sight. When one was supplied it was incorrect for this model. So, after many months, the seller took the rear sight of a new BHP they had in stock and fitted it to my pistol. It taught me never to buy a weapon that needed parts up front. It's just too difficult to source parts here.
So, that field-stripped photo was taken when I was still awaiting the rear sight. Here's the pistol with the sight fitted. |
