Primer Storage

OK folks heres a newbie question.

I 've been reloading for about a year now. .38 spec only and getting ready to switch to .45 ACP. What is the best/safest/'school solution' to storing the loose small pistol primers that remain in the tube. Obviously (I think) the best would be to replace in the original tray.......... but we pitched 'em!

I was thinking of a tiny zip lock bag or a pill bottle. Better options?
What say the Mighty Reloading Masters of the TFL??

Don't pitch the trays.

You've just learned a life lesson.

For the time being, if you have any empty cases, simply size and prime them and store them.

NEVER store primers loose in a bag or bottle (especially glass!)

I agree with Clayking, I use CCI primers which allow you to put in in multiples of ten. I only put in as many as I plan on running per session. If you decide to load more, you can always add more primers to the dispenser.

This is what I do also. If I plan on loading 500rds, then I load up 5 primer tubes.

I ended up loading up a bunch of .38's with the remaining primers. (should have thought of that in the first place.............

NEVER store primers loose! I was told what happens is that when disturbed, some of the priming mix will dust out from the primer and settle in the container. This stuff is VERY sensitive in that state.
There was a story of an employee in an ammo plant shaking a bucket with loose primers while walking along. He sort of just disappeared, the story goes. Probably just a story but . . . .
Also read that priming compound is more powerful than the same amount of dynamite! Store them ONLY in the original little trays. The makers go thru a lot of expense to make them. They would love to just sell them loose in boxes, if they could, I'll bet!
