Anybody shooting the Nosler J4 Competition Bullets?
Just looking for data and test results from any of you shooters that are using the Nosler J4 Competition 155g or 168g bullets. I picked up a box of the 155's that I plan on testing today in my M1A, M1 Garand (30.06) and AR-10A4.
I've had real good luck with the Sierra 155g Palma Match bullets but the Nosler bullet is less expensive and figured I would give them a try. Information good or bad welcome. Thanks, TS |

I've got 50 155 J-4's loaded in Federal GM cases I'm going to try tomorrow. Like you said the 155 Sierra worked well in my M1A also. I'm using virgin cases with Fed 218M primers with IMR 4064 pushing the J-4 . FYI this box of J-4's weight varied from 154.7 grains to 155.1 grains this seems very consistant to me. I've shot 1/2 inch three shot groups with the 155 sierra from a cold barrel. I'll post a range report tomorrow or monday and I'll have chrono results for you to look atthis load is cookin around 2800fps I think the J-4 will be a good round.

Went to the range today this is what I got.
The load was a Nosler J4 155 gr over 46.1 grs IMR 4064 in a virgin Federal GM case with a Federal 210M primer. I shot ten 5-shot strings The groups ranged from 3/4 inch up to 1-1/4 inches. The first string was the smallest. I think I'll stay with the J4's the Sierra 155 Palma did not do this well for me and my rifle. From this fifty rounds this load gave me an average standard deviation of 13.3 the smallest being 3.4 and the largest being 32.5. The average speed of this load was 2847 fps. overall i'm quite pleased with these results. I think I can get this round more consistant if I can get a more consistant seating depth. The OAL varied from 2.700 to 2.775 I think this is due to the old Lee Chalenger press I have. The group sizes could be better on my end (poor trigger control today) The J4 is a good bullet I'm gonna keep using them till something better comes along FWIW.

Nosler J4 168
I have been using these for a few months in my remington, with results comparable to the more expensive SIerra's.
I will keep buying them! |
