Best caliber for situation described.
I commonly go on bank runs for my job, and it may be conceived that I carry a large amount of cash. For this reason the likelihood that I may be robbed is larger than for most. I carry a .45 as primary weapon on my hip and 9mm on my ankle. I was looking to add another caliber pistol with high ammo capacity to take with me in the car when going to the bank. I am trying to determine if a .45 would suffice or wether another caliber would be better suited. I imagine that if I were held up during this time it would probably be from a vehicle and possibly by someone with a vest. I have not found any similar posts, so would be much appreciative of whoever cared to weigh in.

I'm not sure, but can't go wrong with a .45 cal for stopping power. Vest or no vest

Well, if the perp gets the jump on you, and your staring down the barrel of his gun, just give him the money and forget getting into a gun fight.
That said, if you see no gun then you stand a chance, and your .45 will do the job. Just an opinion. |

Stick to all 9mm. I would do a Glock 17 with a BUG Glock 26. 4 mags on weak side. Regular mag in the 26 and a +2 in the 17.

If you don't feel safe with a .45 on your hip, and a 9mm on your ankle . . . . . well, let me ask two questions: (1) Does the next gun absolutely have to be a handgun? (I'm thinking 12 gauge with slugs); and (2) Can you bring friends (preferably carrying rifles) along?

^ Agree with the shotgun.
But it doesn't seem like the OP is an armed guard. So probably has to stay concealed. I would also ask for a raise if this is in the job description you sign up for. |

If rifles and shotguns can not be taken then use a .357 mag or sig. that should do the trick.

A 45 would not be the best choice for this. A 9mm, 40, or 357 sig or magnum penetrate barriers much better.

I was going to suggest something in .40. Maybe a XDm where you get the best of all worlds: high capacity, increased velocity over your 45 and increase in mass over the 9mm.

You're well-armed enough. I'd be more concerned with security protocols. Maybe get a vest for yourself

I'd suggest a new way to deposit the money. Change up your routes, vehicles and times.
If you're that likely to be robbed, you're doing it wrong. |

Big have you thought about a high capacity .45 for unarmored targets and a Tokarev in 7.62x25 as a BUG?
I looked into the round a while back and was impressed by it's reputation for penetrating even hardened targets. It seems like that would give you the best of both worlds and the Tokarev's are still readily available for stupid cheap.
