help in identifying this rifle

I bought this rifle about 15 years ago from a guy that needed money and since I have quite a few rifles to hunt with and shoot on the range, I basically just put this rifle away thinking that it was a British Enfield 303 cal. like I had when I was a young boy about 50 years ago. Recently with all of the renewed controversy about firearms I decided to purchase a better supply of ammo for all of my weapons including this rifle, after purchsing 303 ammo and comparing it with the couple of rounds that came with the rifle there is a considerable difference. The rifle has no caliber markings whatsoever and the cartridge that came with it only has "17" stamped on it. I have included a picture of the rifle and the cartridges if anyone can help I would appreciate it very much. thanks in advance, Earl

That rifle is a m44 mosin Nagant. It takes 7.62x54R ammo.

It appears to be some variant of Mosin Nagant, although I have no idea which one, or what caliber.

Check out this link, see if anything there resembles what you have.

Your welcome. If you want to shoot it ammo is cheap and plentiful. You can by crates of it online for around $200 or less shipped. The ammo is corrosive, so you want to make sure you clean well after firing it.

The ammo does not appear to be 7.62x54R for the M44 Mosin Nagant.

The cartridge with the shiny case appears to be .303 British.
The cartridge with the tarnished case might be a 30-40 Krag.

Oh the mini14 is loved by its owners but hated by the rest. Same for the mosin nagant.

Yeah, that ammo isn't 7.62x54R. Are there any maker's marks on the rifle? Can you post additional pics?
