Browning Sweet Sixteen date of manufacture....???
Just bought the above mentioned smoke pole and was wondering when it was made. I don't want to post the entire serial # on here if I don't have to. How can one tell what year it was made and by how many serial numbers?
Also, first time poster. Been a lurker for a while. Thanks to many for all the info you give. -wes |

A black powder sweet 16? Generally a smoke pole is a black powder gun or rifle.

The entire serial number contains the manufactured date code, excepting the last 3 or 4 digits.
If you choose to post it, you can be helped here - you can substitute "xxx" for the unneeded digits. If you choose not to, then get a refeence book that will lead you to the info, like The Blue Book of Gun Values, which has a serial number reference section in the back for Browning shotguns (among others), or a specialty Browning book. . |

1S = 1961 according to the list in the Blue Book.
