My Benelli M1 now shoots low recoil loads

Just an FYI for anyone who is curious. I bought a Wolff 25% reduced power recoil spring for my M1 Tactical. Previously I had a 80% FTE rate w/ low power 00buck, and ~10% with #7 1/2 heavi shot. With the new spring I have not had a single failure using Federal Tactical 8 pellet 00buck and Winchester xtra-lite target loads!

The only drawback is that using full power loads will cause premature wear on the locking lugs of the bolt head due to the gun unlocking too quickly. But that's fine with me as the gun is strictly for HD/Skeet/Trap shooting.

So much for guns designed to handle the full range of shotgun loads.

Cole gunsmithing sells spring kits for Beretta 390/391 to handle different loadings. Another supposed "Shoots everything" gun.

We won't even go into the Remington "Lemon -87"

The old 1100 looks better everyday. Shoot one type of load and do it reliably.

K80Geoff: You have had problems with a 1187 shooting different types of loads? Mine shoots everything just fine never had one problem with a bunch of different loads put through it.

Well the Benelli web site lists the minimum secs of the ammunition it will reliably feed. So I wasn't too surprised when low recoil low shot weight rounds wouldn't cycle the gun. I don't need a shoot-anything-gun. I need a gun that reliably shoots the ammunition I want to use.

I've put about 400-500 rounds through it by now. The first 200 were a mix of 00buck, slugs, high velocity slugs, 3" magnum 00buck & slugs. The rest have been a mix of various low recoil 00buckshot loads. With the reduced power spring I have settled on Federal's 8 pellet 00buck. Oddly enough, even with the full power spring, the gun was 100% reliable with Estate Cartridges #4 buckshot.

M88tow...I do not own one. My comments come from shooting with people who have. I have shot the guns, but I prefer O/Us.

Now Remington probably has improved the gun and it probably works with a wide range of ammo. But it certainly is not as popular as the Beretta. Years ago when Remington tried to discontinue the 1100 Beretta took over the clay shooting market from Rem. And used 1100's were scarce. There was a good reason, the 11-87 did not work as well.

Remington went back to producing the 1100, there must be a good reason why? All of the Trap and Skeet And Sporting guns are 1100's.

Within it's limitations, the 1100 is still the best semi out there.

The lemon-87 comment was heard on the Skeet field BTW, from more than one shooter.

Just my $.02. But I still maintain if you want to know about a shotgun, check the local Clays range.

Ok, I don't shoot much clay but alot of small game and whitetail have been taken with my lemon-87. I also own a 1100, it is a great gun as well. Actually I have never had a problem with either one of my remingtons
