Mid-Size Carry?
Ok, I own a Ruger LCP and a Ruger P95. Now I'm on the hunt for an in between size to carry. Probably looking at a $400-$500 budget although I'd rather keep it lower but I understand that you need to spend accordingly with firearm. I hate to even ask, but please throw some recommendations my way. This will be my primary conceal carry firearms. All feedback welcomed and appreciated. Much obliged.

Easy....Ruger SR9c.
Mine is a joy to shoot and it's been flawless through more than 500 rounds down range. Wonderful trigger and great ergonomics. I had a P95 and while it's a great gun and built like a tank, I like the striker system in the SR9c rather than the DA/SA in the 95. Good luck in your search. |

I am a big fan of the combat tupperware.
I carry a Glock 23. But if you are a Ruger man, go with the above suggestion

At one time, I was on the hunt for a 9mm in that same midsize range. The top contenders that I came up with were the Glock 19, Ruger SR9 and SR9c.

The SR9c is a fine choice IMO. I love mine; 100% reliable, good trigger, good accuracy. With the 10 rnd mag it is a nice compact pistol. With the 17 rnd and grip extension it feels much like a full size SR9. The LC9 is smaller than midsize, but if you can get past the loooonnng trigger pull, and are comfortable with the size, is a very good CCW. As you can see, I am a Ruger fan...

I'd look for a nice, used (police trade-ins less than the price range you specified are still plentiful) Smith & Wesson Model 6906. Can't beat it for extreme reliability and tank-like durability.

Top picks...
The easy answer would be a NIB Ruger SR40c or if you had the $, a SIG Sauer DAK P224 or P229R. The mid size, lightweight Beretta PX4 C format is a great value. I owned a PX4 9x19mm in 2009.
I like DA only format pistols but there are many well made brands in the mid size line. Rent or borrow a few & blast away. Clyde |

CZ P01. Feels like it was custom molded to my hand.
I also have a Kahr K9 that works well. The Glock 26 with finger extension would fit your needs. |

Ruger SR9c is one of my favorites, but then again there is the Sig p239 that always ends up tagging along. Both have been 100% reliable.

Glock 19/23/32 are all good choices in the mid-size handgun market.
I would put the LCP in the sub-compact size. If you want to go in between mid-size and sub-compact, then you have guns like the G26/27; S&W M&P 9c/40c; SR9c. |

Great input everyone....thanks. I really like the size of the LCP and it's easy to forget it's there when you have it on you, but think I want something a little bigger. The SR9c is looking really good to me. I'm going to go check out the local shop this week and get a feel for some options.
Another one that's been catching my eye is the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield. Any thoughts on it? |

I prefer the M&P Shield, but if you're a Ruger person and want to stick w them, try the LC9/SR9C.

The SR9/40c, M&P9/40c, Glock 19/23, and Caracal C are great choices. I went with the SR9c, and I am happy with that choice.

CZ-75D PCR. Reliable, accurate, alloy framed, with 15 round capacity.

I looked at both the Ruger sr9c and sr40c, based upon my very favorable experiences with my other Ruger semi autos. But I already have an LCP, and the 9 mm round didn't seem that much better than the 380, and the fact that so many police agencies have chosen the 40S&W round, I went with the sr40c. The round, and the gun, inspire great confidence. My NIB sr40c was $439 just a few months ago.

Thanks for the reply and input from everyone. I have a friend who gets a nice discount on Glocks through his connections and he can get me a NIB Glock 26 for $400.
Two questions: Would the Glock 26 be a tiny or considerable step up from the LCP? Would you buy it if you already owned an LCP? |
