Unusual 870

Several of the local Dicks Sporting Goods stores are selling Remington 870's with 23" barrels, turkey chokes, and camo pistol grip stocks. I haven't been able to find anything about this weapon on Remington's site or on either of the other sites I've visited.

I'm not a bird hunter, and likely won't be (unless I ever move back to my home state of Kansas). My shotgun uses are three-fold:

Deer
Squirrel
Home Defense

Obviously, I'd have to change chokes for different uses...and maybe even get an 18.5" barrel for HD...but this 870 seems to make a lot of sense to me (though I don't really care either way about the camo finish). I'm curious if anyone has experience with this type of 870.

I have an Express Turkey Gun that I bought used. It has a 21" VR Barrel with twin beads and RemChokes. as a one gun/one barrel 'everything' shotgun it's about as good as it gets. Sounds like the one you are looking like would be just as good, with some extra choke tubes added to the package. I wouldn't think you'd need a shorter barrel for HD, and finding the right choke tube should handle all the other needs you list.

870

I stopped by Dick's today, and they had that 870 on sale for $379 ($80 off). I bought it.

I also picked up a modified choke (more will come later). I noticed that Dick's sells a very affordable buttstock with the identical camo pattern....perhaps that is a future purchase.

The Limbsaver pad really made a difference. I'm very pleased with it.

I believe the 870 Express's that shoot the 12ga/3-1/2" shell have the 23" barrels on them. It's for hunting turkey. I think it's the Super Magnum Express, not for sure the exact name Remington calls it. I have a standard 21" model that works just fine for me....hpg

That's right: it's a 23" barrel. I really like the pistol grip stock...it is the first one I've seen in this configuration.
