Model 42 & 12

I have a Browning superposed, Lightening (SP?) 20. Purchased in 1964/65. NRA 90% or better. I am interested in a 42 & 28 gauge. What are my chances of working a trade? Not sure of value of any of these guns @ this time. Just had this idea today & thought I would ask for some opinions. I realize some more money could be involved. Be nice guys, be nice.

Greetings old but not dead, and welcome aboard.

I'm not sure what you're looking for. I think of a "42" as a Winchester .410-bore pump gun modeled after the famous Model-12. Is this this what you want?

Model 42's in very good shape are in the $1500+ range- your Superposed and a 42 MIGHT be an agreeable swap depending on condition and model.

You aren't clear to me what 28 you want

It it's a true 28-ga Model 12 (not a conversion) you're after, then it's gonna take quite a few Brownings in trade.

The last true 28 gauge model 12 I saw had a price tag of $3800 on it...

Model 42 & a 28 gauge

I had a suspicion this would be my answer, but as indicated, I have not looked at prices in years. Model 42 (.410) and a model 12 in a 28 is what I was thinking about. I have Model 12 in a 12 gauge & a 20 gauge and my idea was to complete the grouping, minus a 16. The 12 and 20 gauge I picked up in when I was stationed in Kansas, had the 20 reworked by Simmons, not sure they are still in business, for skeet shooting. The 12 gauge I traded a Mirikou O/U, 20 gauge, I purchased in Japan, for. It has a Cutts compensator on it and used drive my skeet shooting comrades nuts. Thanks for the input gentlemen. Another off the wall idea dead.

There were several posts on the 28-ga Model 12 a while ago. IIRC, the only one anyone had bought in some time was post-1964 production from Japan. It was labeled Winchester but came in a Browning box -- I suspect you're after a Made in USA gun.
