mossberg 500 and what rounds?
I just bought mossberg 500 this past season. (successful with large Doe taken). It shoots very well and I am impressed. It has rifled barrel and I have been shooting Sabot slugs. However, a family member gave me large quantity of rifled slugs to shoot. It is worth the time to sight gun in for the rifled slugs since Sabots are pretty expensive. What are the consequences that I could face? Thanks again for all your feedback.

Buy a smoothbore barrel for shot and rifled slugs.
Leading of the grooves in the barrel is often a tremendous labor intensive cleaning task... smooth bore plain jane 18 inch barrel is under a hundred bucks. Brent |

+1 on what Brent said. Your rifled slug barrel is optimized for sabots. Rifled slugs really need a smoothbore. They can be shot out of a rifled barrel, but you are going to spend some serious time cleaning the lead out of the rifling.

Wow, talk about a Monty Python moment...
To clairfy, Sabots: best shot out of a rifled barrel. Rifled Slugs: best shot out of a smoothbore. |
