can you tell something about the shooter ???

I've been very busy this year adding new calibers... I wonder if we can tell a little about each other from our loading history...

what were the 1st cartridges you ever loaded for
what were the last cartridges you added to your reloading collection...

I'lll start...

my 1st cartridge I loaded for was .357 Mag, then .243, then 45-70, then 50 A.E.

this last year I added these newest ones...

17 K Hornet, 5.7 X 28, 223, 6.8 SPC, 32 ( 8mm ) X 40, 6.5 X 284, 45 Colt

a bit decievng though, as the 5.7, 223, & 6.8 would normally be semi auto rifle or handgun rounds, but mine are all loaded for Contenders... In fact, even though I could load for the FN 5.7, I plan on factory rounds through that gun, I'll be doing the 45 Colt in lighter loads for my new Montados, but also in a hot hunting load for the Contender, & with the 8 X 40 being for my Remington rolling block also, it looks like the bulk of my newest reloading is all for single shots...

so... what were the 1st cartridges you started loading... & what were the latest you've picked up???

I first started loading .38 Special, in Federal brass, with Speer swaged LSWC and LRN 158 grain bullets. I was using a Lee Challenger 2001 "O" frame press and the Lee dippers... no powder measure and NO SCALE! I used Hercules Green Dot powder and CCI primers and I was 17 years old and had Speer #11 to teach me. No internet, no mentor, and that was it. It was 1988.

Most recent caliber... Hmmm... dabbled a bit in .30-06, made some great .300 WM and I'm waiting on some .380 dies to arrive to try those.

Attention Brass rats and other reloaders: I really need .327 Federal Magnum brass, no lot size too small. Tell me what caliber you need and I'll see what I have to swap. PM me and we'll discuss.

MWM,

I have been reloading since 1975. The 1st gun I reloaded for was a Ruger Blackhawk in 357mag and a Enfield MK 4 303 british. I also cast bullets for them. My Dad got me the blackhawk and the 303 for x-mas in 1975. He also got dies and bullet molds for them and away I went. I have had a few years where I did not reload much, if at all due to deployments but I am Retired now and can devote more time to having fun.

I used to load for all kind of different cartridges but I have now kind of standardized on a few diameters so I don't have to buy a bunch of diff. sized bullets.

The latest cartridge I have added is 243 Win. I am not sure why I got one(I have never thought all that much of the 243) but I want to mess with it I guess. My favorite cartridge to load for is the 308 win. I have loaded so many of them I think I have the bugs worked out and have settled down to a few loads that work real good in my guns. I also just got back into shotgun shell reloading. I dusted off the old MEC 600jr and started back. I used to shoot trap and skeet then quit for about 20 years. Now I find myself wanting to shoot a shotgun again Ammo prices are up there so I got out the old MEC.

I load for a few wildcats and cartridges that are hard to find/reload only like the 6mmBR and have a few custom made guns that are a reload for only option due to neck turning.

I load with an old CH single stage, Redding T press, and 2 Dillon 550B's and now a MEC 600jr.

I had to add this because I am with 10 spot T, maybe we need to start a group:

I started with Lee Loaders. 20 ga., then .243. I started seeing the possibilities, got a Rock Chucker, and took off.

After those first few, the cartridges and their order (I think) are; 30 carb, 30-06, 218 Bee, 38 S&W, 38/357, 222 Rem., 7mm Rem Mag, 308 Win. I've done a few other calibers for other folks, but those listed are for my guns.

Gotta say, that the reloading becomes as much the hobby as shooting. jd

For me it all began with the .264 Win.Mag followed by the 32-20 for a Savage sporter rifle and pretty much went crazy from there even to the point of buying brass and dies before I even bought the gun. Several guns I bought were never fed any factory ammo . Hi . My name is Dave and I am a reload-aholic ,,,

I just started this year on loading for my 280 rem on a Lee Classic turret press. I hope to start loading 243 this weekend and 40 S&W by the end of the summer. For the 280 rem reloading is the only way to go, and I rather enjoy the science experiment portion of reloading II'm slow with math so it keeps me out of trouble). The folks that frequent this site have been very, very helpful to me and I owe them alot in terms of time and money saved.

I started loading 9mm to try and save money because I like to shoot IDPA, GSSF and whatever else I could find to shoot. After about one week it turned into an addiction and not so much a money thing. I added 223 then 38 spcl then this last year I added 45 auto.

Back in High School

I started loading 12 and 20 ga back in high school. Did that for many years until I got married. Put the stuff away for about 20 years and started loading again about 18 months ago. Now I load for the following: 9mm, 10mm, 40 S&W, 45 ACP, 204 Ruger, 223 Rem, 30 Carbine, 270 Win, 308 Win, 300 WSM. Would like to add .357 Sig and 8mm Mauser.

Hi Dave ..

I started at about age 9 helping my dad reload .30-30 on and RCBS A2 press. I started loading .41 and .357 when I moved out from home. My dad gave me most of his reloading stuff (and stuff from my grandpa) a few years ago since wasn't loading anything.

I can now load for at least 3 cartridges I don't even have a gun for, .22 Hornet, .257 Roberts and .270.

Latest addition is 7.5x54 after picking up a MAS 36 and MAS 49/51. Next addition is 7.62x25 as soon as I find dies.

Then and Now

38 Spl., found a large supply of once fired range brass at a downtown Atlanta Pawn shop. They almost paid me to take 10,000 rounds off of their hands. Got it for $80. Added .357 Magnum all with a single stage RCBS press and powder measure. Later added 45ACP and 9MM. Added a twin set of Dillon SDB's, one in large pistol and one in small pistol primers. Changing primer feeds is not easy but can be done. Added 40S&W. Various guns in all calibers. Started loading in 1974, still going strong with lots of pieces and parts to last thru 20??. Jimmy Carter gave us Ronald Reagan in 1980, I can't wait for 2012.

I started with the .357 mag. Then the 41mag and 44mag. After that got into the rifle stuff. .416 rem mag, 22-250, 308, 270,7mm mag, then most recently .243 win, and 30-06. Having fun with the last two you sure can do alot of differnt type loads for them. I guess that's why I like them so much.
