7.62x39

Hello folks,

My friend just bought an SKS. Unfortunately, he cannot find ammunition. Does anyone know where he might purchase some commercially?

Thanks,

DJ

He will probably have better luck looking locally. Almost every online shop is sold out and back ordered. Cheaperthandirt had some at 3x normal cost.

local is about you only option, online stores are being sold out within minutes of getting it in stock lately.

bulk purchases are out of the question right now unless it's at in your face prices at a gun show.

7.62x39

Last time I was back home (I'm presently away on business), the 7.62x39 was about the only popular cartridge that they had any of in stock at all. I guess we don't have may comm-block enthusiasts in my neck of the woods.

Look around, you might get lucky.

Co-worker friend of mine offered some advice that has worked for me...

A person needs to dedicate part of a day to visiting local suppliers and just see what they have (calibers that you want). Be prepared to pay a bit more than usual, but persistence pays off.

Have your friend start hitting the gun shows and tell him to bring cash. Last show I was at they had plenty of 7.62x39 but it was super expensive ($12/box for Wolf Military Classic). AIM lists it for $5.39/box but is out of stock, he can choose to be notified when it comes in but he'll need to jump on it as soon as it does.

Check out the "ammoseek" web site. It's there to be had, getting pricey though, like everything else.

Not familiar with E.Washington. Here in SE Michigan, the independent gun shops have some in stock between $9 and $12 a box for Tula. Not much else available right now. The big box stores are bare.

While most of the online shops are out of stock, you can find this ammo on the auction boards. I just bought 400 rds of new Tula for $130 on GB. Just have to keep you eye out for a good deal and not get caught up in a bidding war. ~Craig

Remember that it hasn't disappeared just because of people who want to use it.

As in '08/'09, much of it was bought by people simply wanting to make a profit.

In July '09, a single seller in Keene, NH listed 45,000 rds. of Russian 7.62x39 on Gunbroker, all at the same time....
I counted approx. that amount. He must have realized that the panic was cooling off too fast, and I hope that he got burned.

chadio, in West Richland there is a good shop called Talos Tactical. When I was there a couple of weeks ago I believe they had some of that ammo. And they are not the kind of people who rape the consumer. Give them a call if you can stand the drive from where-ever you are.

In fact they were unloading a couple of big boxes of Magpul G2 and G3 magazines and the prices were under $30 unlike some other shops. Around $25 for the G2 IIRC.

The gunshop in downtown Kennewick is worth a call also. Sorry I can't remember the name.

I haven't been to Spokane since last summer so can't help you there.

I guess it's that way for most ammo right now.

Anyway, keep an eye out for Golden Tiger, it's great ammo.

Nowadays it's best to buy the ammo first, and then the gun.

Just bought a whole bunch of TulAmmo 7.62x39 off of Midway.com the other day. It should arrive today.

It's not my favorite stuff, but hey, we can't be picky these days.

That's the only non odd ball ammo you can find down south in OreGun.
