Marlin 30-30 STUCK?

Can I get some advice? It seems my nephew was shooting his Marlin 30-30, lever action and got the lever locked to the front position. I eyed the thing and it looks as though it may be related to a jammed round? There is a round basking in the receiver, below the lever action as if the gun tried to put the round into battery, but it is frozen now. No round in the chamber. Can I/should I release the rounds from the business end of the weapon? Then proceed. Is this something anyone has had experience with?
Thanks.

So is the lever stuck open? I've dealt with the same problem and had to remove the lever and the bolt to free things up again. Remove the rounds and put it back together - if it continues to jam up when open (even when empty), check the screw that's about 1.5 inches directly behind the loading port on the right side. Mine was loose and it put the shell lifter out of alignment enough to jam the gun up tight whenever the bolt was fully retracted.
