50yd accurate load? 38SPL

Needs some recommendations for 50yd loads.

38SPL

What bullet would you recommend? - Lead only

Want to use Bullseye powder.

Any recommenations please.

I have heard that 148gn HBWC are very accurate.

I guess I got two questions if you could help me, I have never loaded WCs

Do I need a special die? or can I use my usual dillon die which I use for SWCs.

Also, which bullet is good? I need recommendations for load as well please.

By your signature line, I believe that it is safe to say that you're using this for Conventional Pistol. If you're using this for the long line, I have had good results with the 148 gr Hornady HBWC, seated slightly below flush with a gentle roll crimp over the bullet. 3.5 to 3.7 of HP38 works well for me; I'm shooting these from a S&W M52-1, with a slide-mounted Ultra-Dot.

What kind of revolver are you using?

Thanks and yes I want to use it for centerfire portion, through a colt python and a S&W 686-3 (performance center).

I use a profile crimp on my LSWC and LRN 158gns.

what kind of die do I need to seat WCs? I currently use Dillon dies for LSWC and LRNs.

Will I need a different crimp die as well? I would hate to change setting between different loads its easier to change dies.

The normal seater will do; I use an RCBS seater; I do have a separate plug for full wadcutters, though.

I have no experience with the profile crimp--but whatever it is, crimp very lightly. You don't want to deform that soft lead slug. BTW, what kind of Dillon do you have?

I use a Hornady LNL. I use a Dillon resizing/deprime die, Lyman-M exander, Dillon Seater and Redding profile crimp die. It is slow but good setup, since the LNL has this spring for ejection which does not allow profile crimp dies to work with it, I just don't use the spring I take out the round by hand. I am in no hurry.

I will need to find a good seating die for WCs and get a roll crimp die for 38 - which I don't mind. I like the LNL fast die changing option so I just change dies and I am ready to go.

Heh, heh. Good to hear from you!

As for some of the other questions you mentioned, I don't really think that the exact measurement of seating depth below flush makes a difference, as long as you seat VERY slightly below flush.

For a revolver, though, the seating depth is up to you--and no real crimp is required. Just straighten out the crimp and you should be set. Remember, it's a real soft bullet, like the swaged Star bullets, and too much crimp will deform them. Some amount left out might actually be helpful, as the bullet will not have to rub the chamber throats to center in the bore. Hope all this helps!

So far from all the responses I got I will be going with about 2.8 for BE. Probably order Zero 148HBWCs.
Ordered another profile/roll die from redding. Will seat flush to slight above, crimp to 0.001-0.003 ever so slightly so it doesn't deform the bullet. and try them out.

Here's a bit of a tip...

If you decide that you like the low recoil and accuracy of the 148 gr HBWC in a revolver, you might seriously think about getting a S&W M52. Once you try that pistol, you'll love it! With mine, shooting with the slide mounted Ultra Dot, recoil is almost nonexistent, and it is dead-on accurate.

Ditto on the 148 WC, with the only difference that I use a beveled WC (had the first box given to me and they worked well enough that I stuck with them. I shoot Winchester 231 at about 850fps. I like the results.
