I like the 37's, the semi-hammer design and the old school Winchester workmanship. In those days a price point gun was still well made with good material.
Here's a 37 story for you. About 25 years ago I was on my way home in gov vehicle and passing through the center of our little town. I spied a long gun propped against a tree in a front yard with an hand painted sign..."4 sale". An old timer was lounging on the front porch. I beat it home, changed and hustled over there in my pickup. A win 37, .410, about 80% or so. Old boy says..."I gotta have $50 dollars for it." Done. That shotgun has resided near the side door by the water heater ever since, where it is oft called upon to dispatch varmints of all sorts. |

Model 37
I got a Win. model 37A that belonged to my father. He never had any really nice guns, but I treasure this old single shot because it was his.
Mine is in 12 ga and still operates smoothly. Also light weight. |

I have one in 12g and one in .410 and they are my go to guns for unwanted critters. I would like to find a 20g someday.
Did they make them in 16g or 28g? Also what is a Red letter? |

I started using a full choke 37 for turkey hunting about 8-10 yrs ago. It is a sure turkey killer holding a great pattern out to 40yds with #5 turkey loads. It also kicks like a mule.

Red Letter
I may be mistaken, but a "red letter" refers to a 37 with a pistol grip cap with a red "W" on it. Most had a plain wood PG an no cap. As such, a collectible plus. The really sharp guys can tell you what year as well.

Trap??
One of the all time great trapshooters started his career with a model 37. He's from Washington state.
His name escapes me at the moment, it is said he was one of the reasons the 27 yard line was established. I can't imagine shooting several hundred rounds with a 12 ga. Model 37, besides being a great shot he had to be one tough dude.
