Caliber of Gun??? Hypothetical

ok this is not about any type or shape or brand or material or even weight gun so please don't go there.

If you, hypothetically, had the perfect handgun that took every caliber they made from .22 to .454 and you can only choose 1 caliber what caliber would you choose to carry everyday????

Ok, I will add to the pig pile and go with 357. A more fun to shoot and dang destructive round I have not found! My first trigger pull with a 357 through a Smith 686 was something I will never forget. Love the accuracy, noise, and damage it creates.

9mm -- easy (relatively, no handgun is easy to shoot well) to shoot, cheap to shoot, and modern 9mm performs well enough to get the job done.

45 super. More pop than the acp, still easy to shoot, and a big bore to to really hit hard.

9mm as I have a good supply of ammo on hand and there's lots of it out there if one ever falls short. Also, I have a good supply of both long and short guns to feed the ammo.

I reload for close to 70 different calibers, so I can choose between all but some pretty obscure...

I bounce pretty regularly between 44 Special & 45 Colt

What is the purpose of this hypothetical carry gun?

Self defense against 2 legged and medium sized 4 legged critters, the same as I carry now. 357 Sig 125 Grn JHP @ 1500 FPS.

With so many different options I'm going to opt for the .357 magnum caliber.

I'm much more accurate with 9mm in competition, so will stick with it.

And WHY was the .500 S&W Magnum not included???!!!

(Dale - determined to be offended no matter what.)

(And putting in as much effort as he usually does in the continual contentious caliber controversies.)

.357 and I do carry it every day, well unless I go to where it's prohibited.

The .44 special is my favorite, but those guns are too big & heavy to carry, so I say the 9 mm is more practical for self defense carry.

The S&W 329PD makes a nice light weight .44 Special to carry. It is one of mine for Winter and for when I go fishing.

I have to agree with Hook. The 44 Mag is about the most versatile round extant. It can be loaded from 357 level up to bear defense levels. A plethora of bullet weights and styles to choose from.

Tough question...my first response would be 40S&W but I might have to pick the 9mm. Its a toss up for all the same arguments. The 40 is better in the woods but I can make the 9mm work in the woods with the right ammo.
