Wanted mainspring
hi im looking for a mainspring for my original Rogers&spencer
/ its boken so i cant shoot |

Just saw the image. A spring like that should be easy to make.
Start with spring steel that is filed to thickness and shape and polished up to 400 grit. Place it in a vise and take a torch to the area you want to bend. Heat to cherry red and bend with pliers for lower shape. Then move it on the vise and heat that part to cherry red and bend with pliers for top. (note: I draw the outline in chalk against a metal plate to check the bends against). Mind you, the vise acts as a heat sink and should not ever be used to hammer on (its anvil portion again). Repolish the metal to 400 grit. Temper in a lead pot at 750 f and then compression test in a vise. Then polish to 400 grit again to make it pretty. Blue it and you're good to go (we learned this in the first semester in gunsmithing skool).
