Traded in my FN 5.7 for a pair of stainless 357 Vaquero's today

maybe I shouldn't have??? but, I never really got into shooting it ( I'm totally consumed about the reloading, so if I shoot semi autos in reloadable cartridges, I'm really anal about getting all my brass back, & the 5.7 is really a bugger to reload ) this kinda spoiled it for me shooting it, other than that, they are wonderful guns... but I took it to my LGS & traded for a pair of Lipsy's polished stainless consecutive serialed 357 Vaqueros, that I know I'll shoot more... yes I know what the 5.7's are selling for on GB, but I wanted paperwork to say where it went, rather than a plain old face to face ( especially in this climate )... on a hand shake ( I've bought many guns from this guy ) I left the 5.7 at the shop to sell, & the Lipsy guns are ordered ( 2 week lead time ) he's worried if he didn't get the gun till 2 weeks, he might not be able to sell it ??? ( political climate thing again )... I kept some ammo, as I have a custom Contender barrel in that chambering as well ( which it's much much easier to reload that cartridge if it's fired in a Contender barrel, than in the blow back semi auto )...

We don't really do that much CAS stuff, but last I shot, I used my 45 Montados, & a 357 lever... I now have a 45 lever gun, & thought a pair of 357 revolvers would make things easier, if MRS wanted to shoot CAS with me...

so... thoughts... good deal ??? crazy for doing it ???

Yes good deal. Now just add a pair of Montado hammers nd you'll be all set! - unless they're already SASS revolvers with the lower profile spurs? I don't recall from your post. Love my New Vaqueros.

I sold my FiveseveN last week for $2000 with a couple hundred rounds of ammo. Kinda funny, I sold it for the same reasons and I'm looking for a SBH stainless in .357mag. I love revolvers and I already reload the 38/357 rounds so I'm GTG.

I'm not sure what hammer comes on the Lipsy guns, but suspect they have the Montado hammers ???

either way, I've had MRS practicing with a pair of polished stainless Single Six's in 32 H&R, which have the higher hammer spurs... with the new pair, this will give me 3 sets of matching pairs, one in 32 H&R Magnum, one in 357 Magnum, & my Montados in 45 Colt, all in polished stainless

Was just on Lipsy's site, & the only "listed" consecutive pairs are the SASS guns, with the Montado hammers... ( not to say that I won't get a consecutive pair of regular Vaqueros though ??? )

Very good deal if you ask me.

But then, I've never seen the point of the Five seveN.

As long as you're happier with a pair of Vaqueros than you were with one Five-Seven, then you made a good trade. While it they may be bringing big bucks for the moment, when the panic eventually subsides a Five-Seven will be a $900 gun again so, considering its true value, you came out fine monetarily (and you don't have to deal with the moral dilemma of selling the gun at a scalper's price). Of course, my opinion might be somewhat biased since the Five-Seven never really lit my fire to begin with.

Smart move. The 5.7 is going to be a paperweight soon. And not a very good one at that.

Let's see...you traded what is essentially a hi-cap .22magnum for a pair of .357 SA revolvers, and good ones at that.

Leaving aside monetary concerns, and the current panic bubble prices, I say you got the better deal.

Not terribly clear from your post, but ordered guns, consecutive ser#s, those would have to be New Vaqueros, right? Nice guns, but not the same as Vaqueros. I have a pair of original Vaqueros, SS, 4 5/8", .45 Colt, as well as a 5.5" .45Colt New Vaquero.

There is a slight difference in size, but, being a new model Blackhawk fan, I'm fine with the original Vaquero. I'm not crazy about my NewVaquero, (mostly the grips), but it seems.....small.

Good trade. The 57 is a worthless brick without its hard to find ammo.

well IMHO i think you should have kept the FN(keep in mind rare expensive ammo aside) but what is important are you happy with the trade?

I would have done that, but then again I've never had any interest in the FN. I wish I would have sold all of my evil stuff at the height of the panic now that I can look at it in hind sight. I could have got crazy money for some stuff that I really don't care about and bought a custom 1911 and a nice bolt gun in 22-250.

IF an ussue to the OP...The grips on the New Vaquero (and Flattops) are on the small (slim) side for a lot of folks--a combination of a gripframe/backstrap thinner than the larger framed BH/V and ultra slim grip panels. Easily rectified with some custom/aftermarket grips, which is the way many go anyway. Unless specifying also very slim "gunfighter" profile grips, most gripmakers panels for the New Vaquero are more robust than the factory black checkered ones...so the grip size really is no longer an issue. Two fine gents that will set you up with grips that'll fill your hand better are Carl "Private" Schultz www.privatescustomgrips.com and Cary Chapman www.clccustomgrips.com. Sack Peterson and Paul Grashorn are two that'll set you up with some fine elk or stag grips as well. If you can't wait for custom, Hogue is an aftermarket maker that also has ready-made panels (and they're also a supplier for some Rugers IIRC).

Does Minn have gun registry or something? I dont see the need for paperwork. As far as the ban or anything I think its silly that people actually think its going to happen. It cant even pass the senate let alone the house. That said I dont care for the 5.7 so you probably made a good trade. Its all about what you want.

If you're happy then it's a good trade. I like my fiveseven myself, but to each their own.

I do take exception to anyone dismissing it as a 20rd .22 mag. Even with the relatively bland factory loads you're getting rifle like performance from a handgun. With quality ammo like EA's stuff I sure as hell wouldn't feel underguned in any defensive encounter.
