Western Field 550 ED

My brother has a Western Field 550 ED .410 pump. When you shoot it you have to push the slide release to eject the spent round. Is this normal for this gun? I know my Browning 12 ga automaticly releases when you shoot. Any help or advise will be a great help.
Thanks.

I claim no expertise on that shotgun. But an internet search shows that is is made by Mossberg and is their model 500. Some sites say that the parts interchange. The slide lock problem you describe is not the way my Mossberg works.

I found a video on You Tube last night on disassembling the Mossberg 500, so I took the Western Field 550 ed appart. I found a pin had fallen out that works the slide release once fired. Thanks for your help.

I feel less unnecessary.
