That's the serial number. It should also be on the back of the bolt.

You should go to
http://www.surplusrifleforum.com/index.php
and complete the No5 survey in the Enfield section.

Serial number AB2433 is one of the last made in the No5 line.
Single letter and AA prefix is published as the known assigned prefixes. Apparently no AB rifles had been reported when that info was published.

Actually there are quite a few in the survey higher than that, all the way to AC6252 built in 12/47

I just checked the copyright on my Stratton book, 1999. Eleven years has added a lot of information. That's the problem of writing about the No4, it's going to change. There seems to be a lot of post war stuff showing up lately.

gawoodsman:

A moderator at "Surplusrifle" named "Tikirocker" could be of some assistance.
He is probably also found at "Gunboards" or "Gunandgame".

Another helpful Aussie named "Jollygreenslug" has some good LE videos on Youtube, and can sometimes be found at either "Surplusrifle" or "Gunboards".

Would also recommend the other friendly members at "Gunandgame".
