26" for folding stock?

Is it measured with stock open or folded? I am wondering about overall length for a rifle of course.

I have done some more research and it seems it is measured extended as Ioriginally thought. I almost crapped my pants as I am currently buying all the parts for a 10/22 and mini-14 in folders w/ 16" barrels and it seeems neither will be 26" folded, although I am not sure.

SOmeone should go correct all the threads on each forum that say it has to be 26 folded.

The 26" overall length is with the stock open in firing position. IIRC, there are some state laws that require the overall length to be a certain length when folded. Also some states require the 26" minimum when the rifle can be fired with the stock folded.
(This is all anecdotal, memory based information posted without researching it prior to my daily minimum intake of caffeine containing beverages.)

The Ruger 10/22 measures just over 26 3/4 inches, even when you remove the sliding portion of the stock.

I should add, that is for a Tapco T6 telescoping stock.

a 16" barreled 10/22 in a BC folder is just over 24" when folded.

In Ohio it is 26" measured from stock open position.

In Michigan it is 26" measured from stock closed.

You can look up the other 48 states and tell me what they say.
