D.C. gun laws
Can anyone tell me the current Washinton D.C. law on gun possession? I am a SC CWP holder and am thinking of taking a trip to D.C this summer. I know I can't carry in DC but is it legal to have a gun in vehicle or motel and if so what are the requirements.
Thanks, |

Here's a link to the website. You'll have to fish around abit.
http://mpdc.dc.gov/mpdc/cwp/view,a,1...pdcNav,%7C.asp Basically, you can transport with gun and ammo locked and separate out of your reach. Staying in DC is a bit murky... depends on what the attorneys consider passing through. Here's one for the OAG. http://app.dc.gov/apps/about.asp?pag...occNav=|31678| -Best -Coop

I don't see why it wouldn't be allowed to be in your hotel, but i doubt you'd be able to keep it in your car. they say its only supposed to be in your car if your going to or coming from a range and it's out of reach and locked up separate from your ammo.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I may need to re-consider this trip.

Okay, what others have told you is the official story.
Now here's the "unofficial" but "real life" facts. If you bring a firearm into DC, and you get caught with it, they will do everything in their power to make your life a living hell and extract as much money from you as they possibly can along with pressing criminal charges. It's just that simple. Until we see a few more court cases and until DC -really- gets slapped down hard a few more times, do NOT bring firearms into DC. |
