SP101 and Taurus 605 chronograph results
Everytime I get a new hand gun I always seek out information on three things, the most accurate/reliable self defense ammo, the best "expander" and chronographed results for the specific gun I plan to or did already purchase. I spend a considerable amount of time looking for the chrono'd results ( the other two I can shoot the gun and find out myself )
I FINALLY got a RCBS Ammo master chronograph and wonder why I have shot for so many years without one. I figured to the benefit of anyone like me out there looking for specific info, I'd post my findings from shooting yesterday. This was all done at 4600 feet above sea level and temerature was 37 degrees. Out of the Ruger SP101 with 3 inch barrel- (all data recorded in feet per second) Sorry if some of these strings are really short I shot what I had. Remington 125 gr. I have both of these guns. What do you believe the best ammo is for each one?

Laker-
I carry the Buffalo Bore 125 grain Barnes XPB Low flash short barrel 357 magnum (SKU 19H/20) in my Taurus, I really like the copper bullet performance. And in the SP101 I carry the 135 gr gold dots or the Buffalo Bore 140 gr. Barnes XPB 357 magnum (all copper bullet) (SKU 19K/20) depending on where I'm going. I'm also a fan of hornady critical defense but mostly because it is the most accurate. What ammo do you carry or like the best? |

Bet that 180 grain was painful from the SP.

Mega twin-
Surprisingly the 180 gr is not all that bad considering what it is, but it still turns the SP into a regular ol hand cannon I love it! |

I do find it interesting. Thanks for sharing. I've been wanting to get one also for awhile now. Not sure if I can hold out now that you've put it back into my mind.

That's good info you gathered.
Usually, when posting chrony results it's easier to read and compare when you average the velocities and show an extreme spread. That makes a cleaner post. For example: Quote:
Remington 125 gr. JSP 357 magnum from Walmart (SKU L357M12) 6 shot average 1307 fps extreme spread 70 fps Buffalo Bore 140 gr. Barnes XPB 357 magnum (all copper bullet) (SKU 19K/20) 9 shot average 1504 fps extreme spread 69 fps I enjoy using my chrony to compare loads. It's interesting to see the change in velocity and consistency when you alter your reloading methods. |

sp 101 vs 605
Thanks!!!!!
The information is great and is interesting. Too bad that you were not able to have a Taurus 605 with a 3 inch bbl for a better comparison with the sp-101. J Budd |
