Should the magazine tube be oiled?

As mentioned in a prior post, I got my shotgun VERY wet.

So I pulled it down and wiped ALL oil/water from it.

I oiled most of the gun when putting it back together. Where I did NOT put oil was the magazine tube, or the (now dry) mag spring.

I noticed now it makes a scrapy/creaky noise that I think comes from the spring rubbing on the inside of the follower - whatever it is, I have heard similar from bone-dry 1911 magazines; but don't recall it on this shotgun.

Where (in the mag tube) should there be oil? I DID notice that stock the gun had a bit in there; but figured it was the packing oil.

I'd strip down the tube and run an oil mop through it, and wipe the outside with an oily rag. Then,wipe on,wipe off, the follower and spring.

I'm not sure what the party line is on this one, but I oil the Mag Tube, spring, follower, and shell stops. Make it a light oiling as gobbed on oil is not good anywhere. I've never had any problems and have been doing this a while. To oil the spring, I saturate a rag, wrap it around the spring at one end, and then screw it down to the other end.

From here on out, have a can of WD 40 or brake cleaner on hand and the minute you drop a gun in the water, spray it down with one of the above mentioned wonders.

Then when you home break it down and repeat following up with a light coat of oil.

DO NOT USE WD 40 FOR LUBRICATION-----EVER-----ONLY TO DISPLACE WATER!
