More FTFs with lead than copper?

Just wondering for those who have been reloading for a long time - does the softer surface of a lead bullet tend to lead to more FTFs in automatic pistols than using a plated or jacketed bullet?

I shoot revolvers . BUTTT

If the lead bullets could cause a FTF it would be after the barrel has leaded so badly the bullet was catchin on it & not goin into full battery???

I think your accuracy would have gone south on ya way before then!!

IME most FTFs are from hi primer, missin or low powder (squib) & on autos wrong or incomplete crimpin.

My Bad ??? I forgot `bout the first concern reloading for pistols FEEDIN!!!!

I`m confused , wait no i`m not , I forgot , what was I talkin about !!!LOL

Yeah there`s alot of acyronyms in the firearm business!!!

Sorry, speaking of Feeding here. Are lead bullets any harder to coax up the ramp?

No.

Bullet shape and OAL is all that has ever mattered to my pistols.

Well, given that the average FMJ (in my experience) is more pointed that the average LRN, that might account for some variation in feed success.

Never had a problem with lead or FMJ feeding in my 1911's.

The shape may tend to cause more failures to feed in the 40 S&W. I have had a few FTF in a Sig, XD, and CZ with 180gr lead flat points and 175gr SWC's , never in a Glock.

Digging around the wonderful internet will net a myriad of lead bullets with a 'more pointed' shape. (For all I know, they could be from the same mould design; but they are still available.)

Your argument, though, comes back to my experience. Bullet shape.....

---

If your pistol feeds HPs, SWCs, or other 'non-pointed' designs, it shouldn't be a problem.

Come to think of it; I have never found a bullet that wouldn't feed for me. Some OAL adjustments fixed the only FT-Feed issues I've had. (Which happened to always be HPs; not lead.)

Remember: Lead is a lubricant.
