Let's say you have two barrels:

One is a 24" full choke and the other is a 24" modified choke.

If you chop both of these barrels to 18.5", which one would produce a tighter pattern?

All things being equal they should both pattern the same. The choke is in the two or three inches before the muzzle and if you cut the barrel back 5.5 inches you will remove all of the choke.
