Mauser stock hole purpose
I alwasy heard the reason for the stell lined hole in the K-98 stock was to assist with bolt disassembly in the field. A friend just told me that was a secondary use of the hole. The main use was to allow the passage of a long through bolt that secured the rifles while in there shipping crates. Any truth to that?

According to this website you are correct and your friend isn't.
http://www.mausershooters.org/k98k/k98kframe.html Click on the "K98k" at the left. Click on the "view image in English". Read "bolt disassembly disk". Then call your friend and make your bet! Any help? |

Yes, it is usually known as the stock take down disc or bolt take down disc - a securing point for transport in crates is fanciful at best and complete nonsense.
