Mossberg question
Hi, I've got a Mossberg 500 tactical with the breacher attached, and a 18.5 inch barrel. I was just curious, are these the normal 500 barrels that most mossberg 500s coming with, or is it the heavier, thicker barrel that's standard on the mossberg 590? I have never checked a 590, so I have no idea..

The 500 Tactical came with an 18 & 1/2 inch barrel and chambered for 3 inchers. The regular 500's come in various longer barrel lengths. I have the 500 ATP, and it has a 20 inch barrel but it has a longer magazine.
I believe Mossberg currently offers barrel lengths of at least 18 1/2, 20, 24, 26 & 28 inches. There may of been more in the past since the gun is celebrating its 50th anniversary. With the longer magazine, I do not think you would want a barrel shorter than 20 inches. So yes, I think you have the right barrel on 18 1/2 inches for your variation of the 500. |

I know the length, I mean the actual barrel thickness itself. The 590 series has a heavier barrel than the 500 in most cases, but I have also heard that the 500 tactical doesn't have a standard 500 barrel, which is why the normal heat shield won't fit on it. So I was just curious, is the actual thickness of the 500 tactical barrel any greater than a standard 500 barrel, and roughly the same as the 590A1?

Call Mossberg. The problem with the heat shield fitting may simply be that it won't fit over the breecher which I believe is not removable on the Mossberg.
