I’ve used several of the McCormick magazines with good results, so just sort of stuck with them. I suspect you’ll get various opinions/experiences and for the most part I doubt there’s much difference.
However, every once and awhile one specific gun just doesn’t like one magazine brand for some unknown reason, so you might try one of each and go from there.

I use CMC 8 rounders and never a problem. I imagine that Wilsons work great but since they cost much more I cant justify buying them when I've never had any issues with CMC or stock Colt mags.

I'll take Wilson mags over CMC 8 days a week. The Wilson follower is rock solid and moves far more smoothly. I'm truly underwhelmed by CMC and won't be buying their stuff again as long as it's only $2 less than Wilson's.

I use them both and have no problems with either. If there is a difference in quality it's minimal at best.

CMC Power Mags work perfectly in my Colt, and they cost a bit less than the Wilsons (much more than $2 less, since they seem to be on sale often at MidwayUSA), so it's a no-brainer, as far as I'm concerned.
The only thing I don't like about the CMC mags is that they have a tilting follower, which make the first round or two a little more difficult to load into the magazine, but since the mags have been 100% reliable for me, I can live with that very minor annoyance. |

IMO, the Wilson 47D and the Wilson ETM magazines are the best on the market.

I have four of the lowest priced McCormicks that are twenty years old.
They have had so many rounds run through them that my abacus doesn't go up that high. No problems whatsoever, and still with the original springs. They work with every 1911 they have been used with, too. Mine, other peoples, rentals, all of them. Hard to beat that record.

I only have experience with CMC but they have been awesome. One of my favorites is the blued cheapo 8 round CMC star.

Important to note there are a number of CMC mags. Shooting Star, Match Grade, Power-Mag.
I have a Shooting Star and like it. I've wondered how long the devel follower will last. It is a sort of spring itself. |

Never used the CMC mags, only the Wilson's but havent ever had a problem with them so I am happy with my purchase. Feed great in my Colt, Springfield & Remington Rand mixmaster.

Seeing they both have several different models you might want to clarify which mags you're interested in.

Between 10 and 13 years ago, I accumulated a pile of Wilson and Mc 8rd 1911 mags. From that pile several Mc mags have gone to the great range in the sky, but only one of my Wilson mags is no longer with us. Both types saw hard use and functioned fine until failure, but my Mcs have failed more often.

Shooting Stars? Their springs are not as robust as the others. |

I've never used CMC mags so I can't comment. I have been using Wilson Combat ETM 500B mags in my Ranger, Trojan, and Sentinel (all STI pistols) for several years and they have been very reliable and durable. I shoot the Sentinel in Single Stack and CDP competition so the WC mags get a workout and none have failed me. While CMC makes quality magazines (judging by the recommendations from many), I have no reason to change from WC. Given that some 1911s can be a bit finicky when it comes to mags, when you find a brand that works stick with it.

Styles vary. I use them interchangeably in all of my 1911s...
Except my alloy guns, those I either use the Wilsons with the nylon followers, or the Power Mag + which has a captive follower that doesn't mar the alloy feed ramp. DO NOT use any other CMC mags in an alloy gun.

CMC. Best mag for the price. Especially on sale. I've seen an SR1911 not run on Wilsons (honest) he bought them cuz they were the 'best' after i had recommended CMCs. Loaned him one of mine. Worked fine.

I use CMC myself and I've never had a failure while using them. In my opinion, you can buy a more expensive mag but you can't buy a more reliable mag than Chip McCormick.

Wilson has their new flat spring mags out now. I'm sure they are great mags but talk about sticker shock though, wow.

"Devel" followers on CMC mags
Any comments about longevity of the "devel" followers on the CMC mags?

If devel means the springy followers,
Like I said, mine are twenty years old, With literally many, many thousands of rounds having gone through them, Been dropped, kicked and stepped on countless times, and no problems. All original parts, so far.
