Scopes for Scouts? / Variable on "Cub Scout"?

I would like to hear recommendations for currently available intermediate eye-relief scopes for mounting on shotguns and rifles. I know Burris makes them, of course.

What "scout" scopes have you guys tried? How well have you liked them?

I know the hunt has long been on for inexpensive scopes that would work in this capacity. Tasco has several inexpensive 2.5x20 and 2.5x32mm scopes, but they appear to be a little "close", at 6" eye relief listed. Are there any other inexpensive scopes out there anyone's tried?

Scouts traditionally have fixed-power scopes, but I will hopefully have a .250/3000 AI Mauser built by George this year. I want a longer eye-relief scope, but will I be giving up some of this round's capabilities if I don't go for something like a 1.5-5X?

Spectre, look at some of the handgun scopes on the market. They work pretty well for these applications. As to the power, it just depends on the type of shooting you plan on. Both Bushnell and Tasco sell these in variables for relatively less expensive prices. George

Spectre, Leupold has a 2-1/2X8 pistol scope and Burris has a 2X7 pistol scope. Either should work fine for you. (I haven't decided which to get for my own Mauser sorta-scout in 30-06).

Do you gentlemen feel that variables are reliable enough to place on what could be a fairly "hard use" working rifle? I don't plan on kicking her around in the trenches, so to speak, but I'd like have the ability.

I use a Burris 2x7 handgun scope on my Scout. 250 rounds later zero hasn't moved and optics are still clear and sharp.

Spectre, I thought the hard use part was why "scouts" had back up sights on them. (also why we like Leopold's lifetime warranty!)

Weaver 2x pistol scope. It's what I have on my 350 RM scout and works great. The eye relief of 4"-29" is well within scout range and the scope is solid and rather inexpensive.
