22 TCM bolt rifle -vrs- 22 Hornet bolt rifle???
I have a custom 22 Hornet, Ruger 77 22 Hornet converted to K Hornet with a 1 in 9" twist barrel... love the gun & it's versatility... I don't like how hard ammo or in reality brass can be to locate sometimes, & how fragile 22 Hornet brass is...
I keep getting drawn to the 22 TCM handguns though I've yet to purchase, & noted they offer a bolt action rifle in that caliber that is much more my speed those bolt rifles are also quite a good value... from what I can tell, both cartridges are about the same ballistically with similar bullets... I'd suspect the sharper shoulder of the TCM is inherintly more accurate, & the brass ( made from shortened & formed 223 cases ) should be much more durable, & likely better handle top end loads, with longer case life... curious if anyone has shot both of these with any regularity & wants to offer some insight???

I'm in the same boat as you Magnum. The TCM should just excell out of rifle. Hope someone can share some info.

Personally, before I went to all that trouble making cases, I'd just buy a nice rifle in 221 Fireball.

loaded ammo, factory new, & once fired cases are available... in 22 TCM
BTW... I do have a nice rifle in 17 Fireball, & a Contender barrel in 221 Fireball... but that TCM rifle is still interesting

Excellent answer. The TCM(like the 5.7x28) is an attempt to fit a high velocity 22 bullet in a handgun platform. There are so many better options for rifle use that limiting a rifle to such minuscule cartridges is nothing more than a stunt. |

I have much bigger cases in 22 caliber... however the quirky streak in me also looks at efficency ( that's why I have a custom 25 ACP Ruger Blackhawk, & am building a 25 ACP Contender carbine barrel )...
the TCM looks to do anything the Hornet can do, ( I have several Hornets & custom variations of that cartridge ) with a much sturdier case, & a sharper shoulder angle, headspaceing on the shoulder should offer increased case life & be inherently more accurate than the long slow tapered shoulder of the Hornet base cartridge... & even though the K hornet improves a lot, you still deal with thin cases of the parent Hornet case... BTW... I have a 5.7 X 28 custom Contender barrel as well, & it's much better to load in a fixed breach gun... ( I had an FN 5 Seven handgun, that I got rid of during the last shortage ) & "fixing" cases fired in that gun to load again is a pain, & has a high failure rate... I also agree, if cases weren't available, that I already have plenty of cartridges I have to make brass for, for my Contenders... I'm not really looking for another... but having factory & once fired cases available makes it more interesting for me...

Heck, I'm lusting after their 1911a1 9mm/.22TCM pistol...
ballistics just from the pistol are impressive, would love to see it in a nice semi-auto carbine!!
