BAR bolt sleeve hits butt stock

BAR Mark ll 300 win mag.. when fired the bolt sleeve tail hits the stock. Bolt assemble traveled too far rearward and broke the wood out above the recessed hole in stock. Appears to be traveling about 1/4 inch to far when manually cycled. Anyone have knowledge of what would cause this to happen?

Take off the forend and replace the nylon buffer. Bet it's gone allowing the machinery to travel too far. GW
