If all you have and all you can get is a 22-250, by all means use it. I have killed a few with one but it isn't my first choice.

I agree with the post above about the 30-30 being a great hog gun. A used Marlin can usually be found for a very reasonable price. For some reason people have decided there is gold in the action of the Winchesters.

This may be an excuse to move into larger more powerful rifles. Any .270, 30-06 or .308 will bring down even the largest boars around here without much trouble.

best pig gun in my opinion is a M1 Garand. 8 rounds of whoop arse in rapid succession. anything semi auto 30. cal is pretty darn good

Well, as some say, beggars can't be choosers. And as some above have said, any competent deer rifle will work fine.

I'd imagine 30-30's are common in your area of the country, and it'd work fine.

The ideal gun and caliber will vary depending on the habitat, hunting style, day or night and personal preference.
At our place here in TX we shoot them on sight with what ever we have on us at the time. 270 Win with 150gr SST is my weapon of choice, as many have said, a 223 or 22-250 will kill one, but bullet choice and shot placement have a smaller margin of error, as none of us want any animal to suffer. As far as recovery, its true, buzzards gotta eat too. I prefer a young female 100 to 150 for table fare. I hang them from the tractor loader, peel them enough to bone out the hind quarters and remove the backstrap. That's most of the good meat on a feral hog quick and easy, into the cooler or refrig immediately. It will smell better than store bought pork. I make breadfast sausage or mix with venison for summer sausage and salami. Depending on how fat they are, it may be necessary to add some store bought butt or shoulder or beg the butcher for some pork trim.
Good hunting and be safe.
These feral hogs can be dangerous especially if you wound one without incapacitating it. We trap quite a few and when you come up to the trap they are usually trying to bust out the side of the trap--on your side!

the 45/70 has to be one of the best calibers for hogs 350 cast lead.

Take your 22-250, the 12G & borrow a "deer rifle". That way all bases covered, & you can swap between yourselves.
From the late 1970's to mid 90's a group of mates & I use to regularly travel 10 hours drive west of Sydney, Australia where we knew a wheat/sheep farmer & had roughly 30,000 acres to cull pigs on in the Walgett area.
On our best trips we would get over 50 pigs. For many years all we had were a couple of .222's & a 22-250. Seemed to work ok for us.

But I didn't hear any "WAIT-A-MINUTE"s or "DAMMIT"s which are both names for local thorn vine varieties...
