Mainspring screw

I have a Smith and Wesson 28-2 6-inch, made in the 1980's. The screw on the frontstrap keeps backing out, causing the trigger to move forward as the hammer drops. When I tighten the screw, the problem stops.

Can I use Loctite on this screw, or is there a more sensible solution?

Yes, you can use purple or blue Loctite, which is for light and medium strength, non-permanent, thread locking.

For light applications like that I use clear nail polish.

Thank you both! I think I'll go with Loctite.

The Strain screw on the face of the front strap is designed to place pressure on the hammer spring. It is not designed to be a point of adjustment. Although loosening the screw will result in a lighter trigger pull it is at the cost of hammer speed and inertia.

Apply a bit of clear nail polish or removable loc-tite and tighten the screw down.

Back in the day when i carried a Revolver as a duty gun the strain screw and the ejector rod threads both got that treatment. Either one backs out and youve got problems.

I agree Sharkbite!! I'm not ready to take it to the range because the rear sight blade is broken. I know it isn't supposed to be an adjustment point. The trigger started getting too light, so I tightened it back up.
