Hi Chunk.
I am giving your post a bump because...well to be honest, I am sorta like a hitchhiker on this one. While I have been reloading a whole bunch of other calibers for some time, I will be loading the trusty ol' 30-30 Win. in the very near future. Mind if I come along for the ride and see what info folks may have for you? By the way, I have read where more deer have been taken with the 30-30 cartridge than all other calibers combined! Pretty cool statistic ! I have an old "Sears" model 94 Winchester that shoots very well with factory stuff. That 336 Marlin is a nice rifle as well. If I ever find a good deal on one, my 94 may have some company!

Thanks in advance for letting me tag along on this one.

A great caliber!

I haven't loaded for my 30-30s much. I've been using Speer and Hornady 170 gr. FN's with RL-15 and Win 748. I've also tried Varget and H335. I'm still experimenting. I've been wanting to try some BL(C)-2. Most of my manuals show it has the highest velocity and the lowest pressure.

I just got done working up a factory duplication load for the WW 150 Power Point in a Winchester 94 AE. After fiddling with BLC2. H335 and 748, I finally turned back to my old 30 caliber stand-by powder- H4895. 34.0 of H4895, with a Sierra 150 turned out to exactly match the WW load's POI, all the way to 200 yards, while shading it about 15 fps in the velocity department.

It turned out to be a shooter, too. The story is here if you care to read it.

The aforementioned load is max per the Hodgdon manual, and while it has proved safe in my gun, it might not be safe in yours. Start low and work up per the powder company's recommendation. I assume no liability if you wreck your rifle or yourself.

RL15 will work well with 170 gr bullets, but I still prefer Hornady 150 gr #3035 on Winchester 748.

I like the 170 g FSP's over Vithavuori n140. Should be able to work that 170 grainer up to around 2000 fps.

9 to 10grs of Unique with 170gr cast bullets. Powder puff of a load and great for just plinking.

SR-4759 powder is great for plinking loads. Nice and bulky so you have better loading density and you don't have the variances because of small charges of powder like Unique.

For hogs I use H4350 behind a Hornady 170 grain jacketed. For targets, I use Oregon Trails Laser Cast with IMR 3031 or soft cast with either IMR 3031 or Unique. Be careful about double loads if you use the Unique though.

+1 one the 10gr of unique! Also have been using some hornady 110grSJ bullets over maybe 34gr? of IMR3031, starting load in my speer manual, hotter than the 170gr remmy core lokt factory I have been shooting.

i worked up a great load of 33 gr of Reloader 15 &170 gr interlock's .it shot better than the core loct & the power point, 2 inch groups at 100 yards with the handloads .the factory ammo groups were 3 inch for the winchester & 3.5 for the remington. i wish i had a crony.

Try 30.0 of WW 748 and an RCBS 30-180-FN bullet. One hole groups at 50 yds. from my Win 94 SRC.
