How do you state the length when you haven't built it?

I have not made the final selection for parts, but have the upper and the stripped lower.
What do I write down for the "length" field on Form 1?

I hate that part of the paperwork.

Measure the stock and the weapon separately, take off however much one slides into the other.

Thank you for your response. But I haven't even picked out a stock.....should I wait until all the parts are selected? Am I stuck with that stock?

Easiest thing would to pick up a crappy m4 stock & figure out the length with it. You shouldn't ever be "stuck" with what is on the original form, the consistences from all the nfa boards is that as long as you can return to the stated configuration it doesn't matter what it's current configuration is. If you want that extra piece of mind, write the atf a letter notifying them of the change of configuration after you get your stamp back and finalize which stock/upper configuration.
