Is it possible to tell what year a shotgun was made by the stock?

Here is a pic of the stock that was on the shotgun I got today. I have no idea what year it may be from. My boss said he has had it at least 10 years and it had a previous owner b4 him. Does anyone know how old and what kind of wood it might be?

If you have the serial number, give Remington a call.

They will tell you when it was made.

That is from a Remington 870 made during the early to late 1970s. The stamped checkering is one key to placeing the manufacture date, and the particular pattern of the checkering is another.

1-800-243-9700 is Remington's customer service line. Give them the serial number and they'll date it for you.

Lumber gets changed allatime. Of the 5 870s here now, only two have the same wood they came with, and neither set may be original to that gun.

Not that it matters much. Wingmasters have been consistently good all along.

HTH....

If you look on the "shooters" left side of the barrel back by the receiver and P/M me the 2 or 3 letter code I can most times date month/year of production. This is provided that original barrel is still on your gun. Please send suffix and prefix of your serial # that will help me.

Good Luck and be safe
