I talked to a guy at my local Dicks he said they still have them sitting in the gun room and they have been told by corporate to just let them sit there untill they figure out what to do with them. He said they may start selling them again once all this blows over.

If all this is true about walmart and dicks never selling them again, then they should send them back to the distributors they got them from or if they buy direct send them back to the manufacturers so they can be resold to dealers who will sell them. Between dicks, walmart, and whoever else took them off the shelves that's one huge amount of AR's sitting in backrooms gathering dust.

Maybe they just didnt move that many AR's and they can now use recent events to justify pulling them for good publicity and what not...

I don't normally go for the "boycott" things, but... Dick's is off my "places to shop" list. Probably for good. I don't mind having a moratorium on sales, out of respect, but to villify a tool for something that a lunatic did is just pandering to a mindset that could destroy us.

Wonder what Executives did when they heard Matt Laurer announce the "Official Police report" last friday morning on The Today Show: Information was incorrect, the AR15 rifle was NOT used, it was in the car. On Dec 11th, the shooter tried to purchase a rifle at a sporting goods stor and was denied, on Dec 13th the shooter had an altercation with 4 faculty members at Sandyhook school and it went unreported by the school officials. Imagine how all this misinformation created a national antigun Assault weapon outrage and now what? Nothing...they were just wrong, no biggie! Had it been reported to law enforcement, maybe they would have checked him out and prevented the whole thing!

Dick's Pulled Rifles
I was in Dick's the day before the shootings in Newtown, and the one near Richmond was chock full of Bushmasters. I actually had my eye on one as it and their S&W models were extremely well priced. A week afterwards I went in and thought that they were just sold out in the buying glut, but the sales person said it was a corporate decision to pull them. I asked if they just locked them up in the back, and he said he was directed to repack them and send them back to corporate. I also noticed that they have ammunition restrictions here of 6 boxes per customer per visit.

Walmart is still selling their products, but they are not gung ho about them in their ads as they used to be in this area. As with everyone else, there are very limited supplies of anything remotely close to a modern sporting rifle, except the 10/22 I did buy. Ammo, again, is hard pressed in many calibers. I will say that the one store here does get it in, but if you're not there when the limited supply comes, it's gone quick. A good note is that they did not raise their prices in light of what most retailers have done to cash in on the buying frenzy.

I just bought my shield at Academy they are holding the prices to reasonable levels and trying to be fair to make sure everyone gets a chance including ar's. Main thing you have to watch is employees buying up products.

make money
What if they just sit on them for a while and watch the price go up. Media will quiet down after some time passes they can quietly bring them back out and sell them at much higher price.

I'm about done with Dick's. Bought my SPX there as the price was right, but the counter guy lived up to their name for sure. Wasn't ever really happy with the sale, other than price, so this just strengthens my resolve not to do business with them again. Hopefully, someone from corporate peruses these threads occasionally.

I went into a dicks sporting goods a few years back and asked the counter guy if he had any self defense oriented ammo in .38 and .357 and he acted with an attitude of why I would need that. They don't deal in that. On the the other hand ill put a good name in for dunhams. When I bought my mosin there went in twice same counter guy each time and was just as much of a gun nut as I. Good talking with him about guns a good experience. I mostly frequent the mom and pop shops for most purchases.

I'll boycott any store I find out about that has bought into the disinformation about firearms that's running rampant.
The Dick's in my area is lame but they did have a great deal on a Savage in .17HMR last year that I picked up. I guess that'll be the last thing i buy from them. I have numerous bolt action rifles that I consider to be for more powerful and a bit more accurate than my AR. When I show people a .223 cartridge and a .25-06 cartridge and ask them which one goes in an AR-15, they almost always choose the .25-06. Clueless.

It would not surprise me that what actually led them to make the decision was that distributors offered to buy them back at a higher price.

Dick's has stated they will discontinue selling ARs and othe revil nasty plastic guns. Academy has made no such statement that I am aware of. If they were like the last store I was, they're just out.

"Was just in Academy picking up a scope when, the gun counter guy informed a guy behind me that Academy will continue to sell ARs but, they will no longer be displayed. He said you would have to ask to see one."
Yeah i was in my local academy last week and saw their were no AR's. As i was browsing the handgun section the employee pulled one out to show it to another customer. Their was also a rumor in my area that Sportsmans Warehouse stopped selling them. So i went in and asked and the salesman said "we are still selling them but they sell as soon as we get one in." Alot of people are assuming everyone stopped selling them just cause they didn't see one on the rack when thats not always the case. |

I've been boycotting Dick's for year! They never had their heart in it. I would probably be willing to go through the hassle at Walmart, but never have.
