need cost effective accuracy for S.A. 1911
would like to have something i can do if possible because the last gun i sent to the smith is still there and in march it will be a year.will the Briley Spherical bushing work its a springfield 1911a1 mil spec.the gun shoots close to 4 inch groups and sometimes the group looks like a busted scope you know 3 here and 2 there.i have been thinking of trading it off for a ruger p97 i just hate the way the ruger's look got rid of my p95 shot great but was ugly, thanks, keith

Your problem is the very reason I started to work on my own weapons. Something that takes me a few hours [because I'm not sure and have to double check stuff] takes a gunsmith 30 minutes, but they will keep the weapon 6 week's.
I would suggest looking into a group gripper kit from Wilson Combat. If not sure about how to fit it their video series is worth the money. Wouldn't take an hour to do for a first timer after watching the video.

Key to accuracy is a tight bushing and good fitting link. Even the best barrels won't give you accuracy if there's slop with the link and the bushing.
Using the same sorry GI barrel (which was tapered!), I installed a bushing onto my brother's gun and tightened the group from chest size at 25 yards to head size. I told him with that sorry barrel (taper), it could not be fitted any tighter.

kidcoltoutlaw, I've never tried the Hart bbl kit but most 1911s don't need new barrels. As has been stated already a good fitting bushing and the Wilson group gripper will probably give you all the accuracy you want. I'd start with the bushing alone first and see what that does. Measure the diameter of your barrel and order the bushing that's ID is closest to it. George

Kart barrel/bushing in Norinco
I have not used the Group Gripper, but, have heard good things about it.
Agree with WESHOOT2 - Installed Kart barrel (from Brownells) and bushing and had excellent results. See photo below. FYI - The pistol shown was in a confirmed/not loaded condition and completly safe.
