10mm or 45 ACP?
I have a question for you fellow Glockers: Which big bore caliber do you prefer for your Everyday Carry? Please explain why, as I'm currently weighing one over the other for a possible future purchase.

I voted for the G29
As it's something I have prior experience with (it was the 2nd gun I purchased).
It's compact, has a good capacity, is chambered for a potent round, comes with at least 2 magazines, and it's a Glock! I'd be even happier if the ammunition were easier to find, and cheaper too.

To me, the 10mm is to automatic what the .357 is to a revolver. Lots of versatility.
I prefer the 10mm. If you don't want 10mm power, then there are several 10mm loads on the market that duplicate the .40 S&W. It can also be converted to fire .40 S&W with only a barrel change and possibly a spring change depending on the load. 10mm magazines will feed .40 S&W without difficulty. For a compact, I prefer the .40 S&W, since the guns are lighter than the G29, just like someone that carries a full size .357 might select a snub nose .38. In addition, it greatly simplifies reloading, since I can use the same projectile in both the .40 and 10mm. Last edited by testuser; December 5, 2012 at 05:06 PM. |

Well your needs may be somewhat different from mine...I actually have both the G29 10mm and the G30 45ACP. Both actually feel near the same, point the same, fit in the same holsterss and are quit capable of the task which could be encountered.
I carry the G29 10mm if I'm out in the open, woods, larger buildings or on the road where an encounter may present various barriers or longer distances. It brings more ballistic power and longer range accuracy to any situation. I carry the G30 45ACP concealed if in close quarter atmospheres like that of restaurants, small buildings/rooms. Less chances of a complete pass thru hopefully should there be need. So I dress and carry one or the other based on the estimated places I will be traveling to, weather/climate conditions during the course of a that day. There are plenty of options to choose from, but you will need to practice with what you will be comfortable in using for your daily encounters.

The G20 is my hog hunting sidearm, it's too big for carry outside of the woods.
The big Glocks are too large and the small don't fit my hands as well as a P220 SAS. I've shot all four, if I HAD to carry one for CCW, I'd go with the G29. |

If I were going to carry any of those 4, it'd be the 30 for sure. 10mm is cost prohibitive and overly powerful (my opinion, of course). The full size are just a bit too big to carry easily.
If I still lived in Alaska and was still hiking in bear country, however, I'd probably pick up a 20. |

I voted for the Glock 30 because it gives me a gun the size of a Glock 19 yet it is chambered in .45ACP.

For everyday carry---Glock 30 got my vote. IMO, the 10mm just isn't optimized in short barrels while the 45 still performs very well. For HD I'd go G20

As I said before, the 29 gets my vote, as it is the grandfather of the .40 S&W and the .357 Sig If it weren't for the FBI, 10mm would be a mainstream cartridge, not the "back-burner" round it has become. As it is, it offers the power of a .45 in a smaller package! I really like it, I just wish it were more readily available!

Glock 20SF or Glock 29. Both are effective.

If the OP meant concealled carry, go with either the 29 or 30. Both will be easier to conceal. Either round will do fine.

I voted for G30(SF) since you can also get 30-10mm conversion also which I did. I liked my G29, but I happened to get a LNIB G30SF for a good price so.....

For all of the reasons the previous posters said, I have a G29 SF. Packing the max number of 10 mm rounds in a firearm as small as the short frame is, to me, the ultimate SD weapon of choice. My preference is shooting wadcutters through a 4" Lone Wolf ported barrel. The only other change I made was an exchanging the original slide lock for extended slide lock for easier dis-assembly.
This is my first Glock so I'm still getting used to it, but I would feel comfortable carrying it concealed. It is also my weapon of choice as a backup for hunting. |

Have both G21(voted for) and G20.
I just like to stick to certain caliber for loading. The ten mm is nice, but have a little stock pile of ammo and it gets little use. I might get a .40 barrel and switch it out. |

I have a G20 and did have a G29. The G29 has too short of a barrel to get any potential out of the 10mm. I could not find a reload combo that could get the G29 up to 10mm spec. You would be better off getting smaller G27 with more rounds. The 10mm needs a longer barrel. That said, the 45acp is low tech and doesn't need speed for it to work so you may want to go that route.

While I have both the G20 and G21 and like both cartridges, for carry I'd prefer the G29 over the G30 because of ammo capacity. Both are identical in weight and size but the versatility of the 10mm over the 45acp as well as the larger round count swamps the G30.
Ammo availability is a non issue for me as I handload all 10 of my calibers. Cost wise, the two are about the same as you can get free 45acp brass but the bullets cost more. Both calibers can be loaded mild to hot, however, the 10mm is far superior as a woods gun where it's higher muzzle energy allow it to be effective over thick skinned game like hogs. That said, for my basic home CCW piece I chose the G23 as it's smaller frame is much easier for me to conceal. Further, it's higher capacity and the easy availability of 180grn Speer Gold Dot ammo make it an easy choice. However, my HD, night table choice is my G21. In the woods, I carry my custom G20L without the magwell with 17+1 rds of 200grn hardcast handloads. |

If it's just between those 2, I'll take the 10mm. It would be a woods gun. I voted 20, but the 29 is just as good.

I am not a glock fan at all but I still voted. I picked the glock 30 because there are very few models being offered in 10mm and the number of companies making it are few and far between. so in essence, the guns are hard to find, the ammo is hard to find, the ammo is too expensive to stockpile reasonably, and if a part of your gun ever does break parts are also going to be a PITA to find. the 45ACP just makes more sense.
