Barrel Lapping

iv been reading a lot about said subject and id like to know if anyone on here had done it before, iv been thinking about doing it on a brand new pistol, with say maybe a 600 grit just a few passes to polish and deburr any rifling and tool marks to reduce initial copper fouling.
Also looking for anyone whos done "fire lapping"

600 grit is far too coarse to use . Search for fire lapping articles and follow the directions !

I have fire lapped most of my rifles. It really works well, and makes it easy to clean. As best I can recall, (I did it years ago) I ended with either 1200 or 2400 grit.

You can buy a kit to buy the individual parts.

Mete- where can i get a finer compound, i was only thinking 600 because that was the finest i could find

awesome thank you guys so much, think ill go with Roughedge and get the "tubb" bullets, it looks a little more idiot proof then doing it by hand

What brand gun and caliber? How bad is the copper fouling you're trying to cure?

I really don't follow the new stuff anymore, but are most pistol barrels still cut rifling? If you have to smooth out button rifling there are problems with galling or something.

johnbt- a 1911A1 with Very Very extensive fouling, and a brand new Bersa thunder 380 to polish the barrel to Prevent copper fouling
