Gunsmith

I have a Para P-14. It was an old open class gun. I changed it back to a Limited gun. I want to have the holes welded up from the scope mount. Can anyone recommend a gunsmith that is set up to weld up eight small holes on the frame?
The frame is aluminum!!
Thanks!!!

Honestly, if I were you, I would use the screws from the scope mt. Install them with red Loctite. Dress off both sides and paint the frame. Less expensive and keeps heat off the frame.

Welding vs plug screws

Chris is 100% right. I have seen guns where the owner had the holes welded, ground to the contour, then liquid phosphatized and gun coated and they still look bad. Brownell's positive stop plug screws are just great for what you want to do.

The mount screws have heads; plug screws would be better and look OK without any grinding or polishing. I have seen a lot of good guns ruined by attempts to "cover up" holes.

"...plug screws would be better..." Yep. Brownells carries them. I think.
Al takes a highly skilled welder who has experience welding it. Most smithies don't weld Al.

Gunsmith

Thanks guys for the info.I didn't know about the screws from Brownells.
Most gunsmiths don't weld that much.I wanted to clean the gun back up and send it to Tripp Research for hard chroming. They did an excellent job on my SV.
I believe I will use the gun as is.
