Opinion needed on CZ mousegun

Hi have an opportunity to buy two CZ-45, DOA .25ACP's. One is used and the other is like new and they look like great little guns.

I intend carrying the used one but don't know much about the pistol. I looked on the CZ forums but can't find much info.

Have any of you had experience with the gun?

I don't know anything about them, but i know a few CZ buffs on another forum i use, and I will see if they know anything.

The one I saw seemed to be a well made gun. If you're interested in it as a collector's piece -- or for fun at the range, get it.

But if you're thinking about really using it as a pocket gun, I'd go for something more potent than the .25 acp (which is hard to find and expensive.)

A number of small .32 or .380 are probably available for similar (or lower) price and would serve you better as a self-protection weapon, be easier and cheaper to feed, and much easier and find parts for, if it ever broke.

They are excellent little guns. They were the basic inspiration for the Seecamp pocket guns. D/A only. Rare little jewels.

Thanks for your replies Will, Walt and Bill. I like the idea of a thin DAO mouse gun for wear during the day. My work attire does allow for much else if I'm going to keep it completely concealed.

I've seen there was a book called Know your Czechoslovakian Pistols but it's out of print. Has anyone come across this book?

Hi Bill...you're right but I'm not living in the US and Keltec supply has been erratic. I have a couple of Beretta 950's, which are also great.

Unfortunately i don't think too many entered the US. I assume it was because of the restriction on guns from the Eastern block at the time.

Shot one today and it handles beautifully. Has a gutter site so it's a real close range gun. DAO and a magazine disconnect make it one of the safest pocket pistols I have handled.

Glad you're enjoying it. Most of the folks I asked on my other forum spoke highly of it, not really as a CC piece, but def as a collection piece.

The gun is very thing, which is good but at around 14oz's it's rather heavy for a .25 pocket gun.

True. CZ's have traditionally been heavy steel guns. Great for heavier calibers, but a little much for smaller calibers like that .25

On the other hand, the heavier steel gun makes recoil a non-issue.

I'd be more concerned by the lack of "oomph" from the .25 acp round -- there's not a lot of "there" there. Better than a pointed stick, however.

Have several CZ's in my C & R collection and they all shoot accurate and flawlessly. Can't say much bad about them. As a group they are my favorite shooters--excellent quality, easy-to-find parts, easy disassembly; and I rarely pass up a chance to buy an older CZ. Just got the CZ-50 in 9mm that certainly would be very acceptable for concealed carry. For smaller calibers, the CZ 27 is nice as well. Just well made guns all around

You must mean the CZ-82, not the CZ-50. (I make that type of "slip" from time to time...)

I've seen CZ-52s with an after-market 9mm barrel, but that gun is much too large for easy concealed carry.

The CZ-50s and CZ-70s are all blowback design guns in .32 acp, and would be more than a handful in 9mm (9x19 or 9x18).

The CZ-82, on the other hand, was first issued in 9x18 (9mm Makarov), and it's a very sophisticated gun, and a real competitor for the Makarov. To big for a pocket gun, but a good concealed carry with an IWB holster.

(CZ just recently discontinued a civilian version of that model, the CZ-83.)
Did you mean CZ-82, by any chance?
