I've read the rules and now I'm totally confused.
My next USPSA match will be shot using a "home brew" 1911. there is nothing special about the gun. It's a Colt 1991A1 Series 80 slide, sights, barrel and bushing. All the series 80 crap has been ripped out of the slide and replaced with a plain old 1911 firing pin and extractor. It has a KINGS recoil guide rod. It has a plain jane Essex frame. There is nothing "racy" about this gun I will be using 10 round 45acp magazines that are under 170mm long. I will be using a Blade Tech IDPA approved 1911 holster. I will be shooting 6.3 grains of Power Pistol over a 230 gr FMJ bullet. Will I be shooting in which catagory??..??: 1. Limited 2. Limited-10 3. Production 4. Production-10 Now the big question. How will the particular catagory I'm shooting in affect my score? If I only shot flush fitting 8 round magazines would I be in a different catagory? If I didn't have a guide rod would I be in a different catagory. Can I be in production-10 class if a shoot a model of gun that has been around as long as the 1911 but was built by me? If not then what if I was shooting a stock Kimber with a guide rod and 10 round mags would I be in production-10? Is scoring high easier in production-10 after they run it through the scoring program? I've asked a lot of people these questions, some got mad that I was so dumb to ask (obviously they didn't know the answer) but most said "good question, let me know what you find out". I wish I would have never read the USPSA rules, I felt better not even knowing what to be confused about. Patrick Graham ty-44215 |

1) You will be participating in "Limited Ten"
2) The category you participate will not affect how well YOU do 3) No 4) No 5) No, Production Ten is for guns that start with a DA trigger pull 6) Scoring is based on how well YOU do Tim Gray FY33102

Thanks..
Could I ask a few more questions.?? I have a Beretta 92SB, double action on the first shot only unless I cock it. Will this be in production 10? Will it just be in production if I use Hi cap mags? Where does my Glock 27 fit? Production 10? Can my homemade 1911 stay in limited 10 if I put a Tasco Dot sight on top and a compensated barrel in it? Patrick Graham ty-44215 |

1911's can only be shot in Limited and Limited 10. The difference between Limited and Limited 10 is the number of rounds in a mag. With the exception of the Para LDA. There is no Prod-10. Prod. class requires a max of 10 rounds in the mag, even with high caps. First shot must be DA. Gun must be pretty much stock, only very minor modification allowed. Your Glock and Beretta can be shot in Prod, Limited, or Limited 10. Depending on the holster that you use and how many rounds you load in your gun. Optical sights and compensator can only be used in Open class. Anything goes in Open. Scoring is based on how well you do relative to other people shooting in that class. I'm impressed, 3 year membership and you're just starting. |

More questions You said "Your Glock and Beretta can be shot in Prod, Limited, or Limited 10. Depending on the holster that you use and how many rounds you load in your gun." ? I don't understand what a holster has to do with it? You said "I'm impressed, 3 year membership and you're just starting." I was hooked the first time I did it. |

You are not alone in your confusion. This was the very topic at my club's pistol meeting. Several guys questioned Limited Ten vs Production.

You can use race holster in Limited and L-10. With Production, you can't use a race holster and the holster and mag carrier must be behind the centerline of the body.

http://home.adelphia.net/~eboadway/ipsc.htm Good explaination. Looks like I have to use regular 7-8 round mags to stay in Limited/Limited 10. The McCormick 10 round mags are about 160mm, that would put me in open. Thanks guys |

Single stack mags out to 170mm are OK in limited/limited 10.
